Author Guidelines

The rules for authors are based on the principles set out in CSE’s White Paper on Promotion Integrity in Scientific Journal Publications, 2012 Update

The journal “Governance and Politics” accepts for publication outstanding, original and novel manuscripts on political theory, problems and transformation of political institutions and processes, issues of political ideology and public administration.

Manuscripts are submitted electronically via the official site.

The journal is focused on publication of research articles, theoretical articles, book reviews.

Submitting an article to the journal Governance and Politics implies that:

  • the article has not been previously published in another journal;
  • the article is not under consideration in another journal;
  • all co-authors agree with the publication of the current version of the article.

Before submitting an article for consideration, make sure that the file (files) contains all the necessary information in Russian and English, the sources of information placed in the figures and tables are indicated, and all citations are formatted correctly.

The manuscript of any type of article (research articles, theoretical articles, book reviews) must correspond to the thematic profile of the journal, and also meet the following requirements:

RESEARCH ARTICLE (length without metadata - 40 thousand - 80 thousand characters) is a scientific work devoted to the study of original sources and empirics in order to fill gaps in academic knowledge.

THEORETICAL ARTICLE (volume without metadata - 50 thousand - 80 thousand characters) is a scientific work devoted to the development of theoretical, philosophical, conceptual foundations of political science, implies the study of authoritative scientific literature on a certain problem, theory or method. This article is intended to expand the theoretical understanding of political processes.

BOOK REVIEW (volume without metadata ‒ 20 ‒ 40 thousand characters) is the author's assessment of a recently published monograph (no more than a year from the date of submission of the manuscript).

Technical requirements:

  • Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx), 14 Times New Roman, 1.5 interval;
  • the article has the following structure:
    • author’s full name and affiliation (name, degree, occupation, ORCID, full affiliation with postal address, e-mail) in a separate .doc file;
    • short title reflecting the key problem of the article;
    • abstract (200-250 words). The abstract should provide a brief summary of the paper and include all keywords (8-10). It must contain the purpose (why did you do it?), research question (why did you start?), methods (what was done, and how?), and results of the research (what did you find? why are these findings useful and important?);
    • the text of the article should be logically divided into several parts: introduction (contains the aim of the article, research question, discussion on why this question is important, literature review); methodology (research methods, theoretical basis, stages of research); results (the results of research are presented in a logical way); discussion (assessment of the results, their relevance, importance and limitations), conclusion;
    • the author is obliged to inform the editors about a potential conflict of interest by indicating such information. If there is no conflict of interest, the author adds the following phrase at the end of the article: The author declares the absence of conflict of interest;
    • Figures and tables should not be scanned so that they could be edited. Pictures should be of high quality and sent separately (.jpg or .png). Figures, tables and pictures should have number and reference in the text as well as a source of data. A manuscript should indicate where each figure/table/box should be placed, e.g. <figure 1.1 here>. Images with low resolution at 72dpi (internet sourced) are not accepted. It is the author’s responsibility to obtain permission for the use of image. The author is solely responsible for the accuracy of the images and/or maps used. If manuscript contains special characters (Chinese, Arabic, Cyrillic, characters not generally used in Western European languages, symbols, mathematics etc.) then a PDF version of the manuscript needs to be submitted and the special fonts used need to be listed;
    • References: List of references should be composed alphabetically. It includes academic literature, analytical reports and articles in academic periodic journals. DOIs should be given in the end of a reference. References on statistics, reports, legislative documents, internet resources should be organized as footnotes with full description and URL. The Journal welcomes references to reliable sources, academic articles published in journals indexed in Scopus and WoS databases. The Journal uses the APA style of references:

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The manuscripts are accepted if has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.

  2. The materials should be prepared in a format OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or World Perfect.

  3. Internet links are provided as a complete URL. 

  4. Text should be typed with an interval of one and a half line spacing, font Times New Roman, 14 pt; to highlight the accents it is recommended to use italics rather than underlining (except Internet links). All images, graphics and tables are placed within the text according to the meaning of the particular part of text  (and not at the end of the document).

  5. Text should follow the stylistic and bibliography requirements as stated in  Regulations  located in the Part "About Us." 

  6. Please, remove the authors' names from the title of the article and other parts of the document to ensure the  anonymity of reviewing.

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:

  1. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
  2. Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.
  3. Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work (See The Effect of Open Access).

 

Privacy Statement

Specified when registering the names and addresses will be used solely for technical purposes of a contact with the Author or reviewers (editors) when preparing the article for publication. Private data will not be shared with other individuals and organizations.
